Soapnuts - An Organic Detergent with so many uses

 

Indian Soapnuts or Washing Nuts are versatile cleaning products that are Natural, Eco Friendly and Bio Degradable.  Soapnuts contain ‘Saponins’, which have the ability to clean and wash.  When in contact with water, it creates mild suds, which is similar to soap.

  • Soapnuts can be used for cleaning basically anything, from washing clothes, as a liquid soap, cleaning and shining ornaments, household cleaner etc.

How can Soapnuts be used other than washing?

Liquid Soap: By boiling a couple of soapnut shells for about 5 minutes, you can make a liquid soap.  Once the soapnuts have cooled, they are either sieved or blended into a paste.

Pet shampoo: Soapnut liquid can be used to remove parasites from fur and skin of pets, leaving it soft and clean.

Household cleaning: Soapnut Suds will clean your kitchen or bathroom as effectively as most chemical cleaners.  You can basically \use if for all your cleaning tasks, inside and outside your house.   

Cleaning Jewelry : Soapnuts are commonly used in Indian households for cleaning and shining jewelry due to its effectiveness.  Jewelry is soaked in soapnut liquid and then rubbed with a cloth to give it a shine.

Natural pesticide: Using soapnuts is an effect and natural alternative to repel insects off your plants and around the house.  This easily replaces chemicals.  Your left over soapnut liquid from washing or laundry can be used for this purpose.
